KW 5-way damping and valve technology in detail

We offer an optimally tuned damping technology for every vehicle class and nearly every application. The KW TTSP 35 5A applications use our leading racing technology, based on our Solid Piston Technology which enables independent adjustment of the rebound and compression forces in the high and low speed range with minimum hysteresis and perfect response characteristics at lowest events. On top, we equip these dampers with a blow-off stage, which flattens the characteristic curve in pressure at enormous excitations and events in order to generate the maximum possible contact area of the tire, grip and performance.

Blow-off adjustment

Independent tuning of the blow-off function in the high-speed range of the compression.

What does the blow-off influence?

The adjustable KW blow-off valve, which we use for instance in our 5-way adjustable racing dampers, allows us to additionally fine-tune the damper force flow while driving over curbs in order to guarantee safe handling in spite of this high force effect. The blow-off valve is an additional preloaded and adjustable high-speed valve that only supports damping at fast excitations (XY m / sec). The advantage of this is that the flattened characteristic curve can generate more contact area for the tire, thus providing more grip in borderline situations and enabling the vehicle to be better connected to the road in such situations.

Rebound adjustment

Independent tuning of the rebound forces in the high and low speed range.

What does the rebound have an effect on?

The rebound has a direct influence on the operating speed when the piston rod de-compresses and on the rate at which the spring’s workload is reduced. So to speak, it also regulates how quickly the spring gets back to its starting position. With various KW Coilovers (V2, V3, V4, V5 SC, CS, …), the driver can adjust the rebound.

When the low speed ring is adjusted, the channels of the needle valve are either opened or closed in order to generate the desired rebound damping in the low speed range.

When the low speed ring is adjusted, the preload of the plate springs in the high speed valve is either more or less preloaded in order to generate the desired rebound damping in the high speed range.

What does the rebound have an impact on?

With various KW coilovers (V3, V4, V5, CS, …), it is also possible to individually adjust the basic setup of the compression valve via the click setting of the compression. The compression controls the speed of the piston rod when it dives. It has a direct influence on the body’s roll and the behavior while turning in.
